Sickle Cell Disease Comprehensive Care Act

October 15, 2024 8:55 AM | Katy Monaco (Administrator)

MSCO encourages our members to advocate for the Sickle Cell Disease Comprehensive Care Act.

On September 18, Senators Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Tim Scott (R-SC) introduced an updated version of the Senate Sickle Cell Disease Comprehensive Care Act (S. 5097).  Representatives Michael Burgess (R-TX) and Danny Davis (D-IL) introduced the bill in the House earlier this year.  The bill seeks to allow state Medicaid programs to cover comprehensive care services for those with sickle cell disease with an enhanced federal match for eight quarters as part of a health home.  First authorized by the Affordable Care Act, health homes are a proven care delivery model that have been used by states to improve quality, enhance care, and reduce unnecessary costs. A statement released by Senator Booker announcing the bill introduction can be found here

We need your help in getting your elected officials to cosponsor this legislation. Please use this action alert to visit the ASH Advocacy Center and send a message to your Senator and Representative urging their support of the bill.
